Ryan and Sierra had a very elegant weeding in Montrose and it was full of a lot of firsts for me as a wedding photographer. While I had worked with Cobble Creek Golf Club a lot in the past this was my first wedding at the community. They did a great job shuttling guests and the wedding party from the clubhouse to the ceremony location overlooking the San Juan Mountains. The reception was held at The Lark and Sparrow, a newish concert hall in Montrose that is actually a remodeled version of the old Masonic Temple. Lastly, I had the honor of bringing on Julie Barton as a second shooter. She was a little nervous to be shooting such a big wedding but she did a great job and hiring her turned out to be one of the best decisions I could have made.
It rained buckets as Ryan and Sierra were getting ready but, fortunately, it cleared up for the ceremony and held for the group portraits and couples pictures following. There was a little playground adjacent to the ceremony site so I took my young couple to make some photos on the swings and merry-go-round.
The Lark and Sparrow is an amazing place for a wedding reception and Yvonne is wonderful to work with. In watching the room during dinner I felt like I had actually landed in a 1940’s era USO dance. There were lots of heart-felt toasts to the bride and groom, plenty of high-energy dancing and the couple departed under a salute of burning sparklers.
